Recently, we’ve been experimenting with our air fryer and trying out new dishes. Fish has been a regular item on our menu and we couldn’t resist trying out the Malay Style Whole Fish recipe.
This recipe is simple to prepare and the air-fried fish comes out perfectly cooked with amazing flavors. Though it takes 20 minutes to air fry, the result is definitely worth the wait. We’ll be adding this dish back onto our menu for sure.
About Time
- Prep Time 10 mins
- Cook Time 20 mins
- Total Time 30 mins
Ingredients:
- 1 whole golden Pomfret fish (weighing approximately 850gm)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
Marinade Ingredients:
- 1 small red chili (chopped)
- 1 medium shallot (chopped)
- 1 tsp belachan sauce
- 3 tbsp coconut cream
- 1 tsp sugar
Directions:
- Mix salt and turmeric powder together and rub half of the mixture onto each side of the cleaned and dried fish.
- Air fry the fish at 180ºC / 355ºF for 5 minutes on each side (total 10 minutes). If you have a grill plate, use it, otherwise, place the fish on top of spring onions or ginger to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the marinade by mixing together the red chili, shallot, belachan sauce, coconut cream, and sugar.
- Spread half of the marinade on one side of the fish and air fry it for another 5 minutes at 180ºC / 355ºF.
- Flip the fish and spread the remaining marinade on the other side before air frying for another 5 minutes at 180ºC / 355ºF.
- Once the fish is done, remove it from the air fryer and serve hot. You can garnish with coriander leaves if you like. This fish can be enjoyed on its own or served with steamed rice and stir-fried greens.
